"Total Disappointment" 2010-01-04
By Renaissance Man (Orlando, Florida United States)
Bought this from Circuit City when it was new. It has been the most hassle of any PC I have owned including a self-built windows ME machine...this one has been the one to finally convince me to go with Apple after my whole life on PCs...stay away...
"Great Computer" 2009-01-23

Have had this computer since it first came out.. probably about two years now. Have not had any problems with it... havn't upgraded anything, besides running dual screens. It runs multiple programs fine, Java, Flex, ArcGIS, AutoCad, Office, Adobe, etc.. all running at the same time. Great computer!!!!!!!!
"really old machine" 2008-11-04
By TheDoctor (A sick world)
I was looking for an old driver and found that this is still for sale. I paid $1000 for this 1.5 years ago and if you know anything about computers, 1.5 years is oooooold. The DVD read/write cant read the new warhammer dvd game , even with the lastest updates. The video grapic nvidia doesnt have its own memory (only shared) and the list goes on. It is a socket 7 mother board. Better put this one out to pasture or sell it for its true outdated worth of about $350...not bad for surfing the net or editing home movies.
"Nice Media Center PC for DVR use" 2008-10-03

Got this M8020n a year ago for use as a DVR with MS Media Center and video editing and have left it on 24/7 for a year with no issues. The Media Center DVR feature works fine and was easy to set up. Had to adjust to Vista and do a few Vista updates and Adobe Premiere 3.0 updates to get the video editing part working though.
The M8020n has lots of ports for expanability, video audio firewire and usb. Vista runs quite acceptably fast on this unit, as far as I can tell. The default 2gig ram seems to be enough, as Vista takes 1 gig just to boot up.
For a media center PC, this is a nice unit. I would not try to open the case for power supply or video upgrades though, as others have described here. I am assuming the designers of this unit tuned all their component choices pretty carefully. So if you want the absolute fastest 500Watt liquid cooled video card possible, look elsewhere.
"Well built and good expandability for a microATX case" 2008-01-06

The HP M8 series Intel Core 2 based media centers are solidly built and beautiful machines. Based on all standard components these machines are easily upgraded. I installed an nVidia 8600GT and a 550watt powersupply as well as a larger harddisk with absolutely no problem. The integrated remote and the great wireless keyboard and mouse make this a great media center connected to an HDTV (media center - fancy that!).
Anyway, don't believe the articles about not being upgradeable. It's no less upgradeable than any PC based on standard components, it's solidly built, good looking, and works great. My only negative is I would have liked to see it be cable-card capable.
